Dead Economy: GEJ fires back at Buhari, says claims are false

– Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has said that certain claims by the Buhari-led government are false – Jonathan said his administration did not hand over an economy laying on its death-bed – The former president said he was proud of his time as chief servant of the republic Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ), Nigeria’s immediate past president has said that he did not leave a dying economy as inheritance for the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB).
The ex-president on Monday, September 26, disagreed with President Buhari over claims that he (PMB) inherited “no light, bad roads and no railway”. Buhari, while briefing Nigerians in the United States last week, had said he met nothing on the ground after he took over as the president.
He had said: “We got into trouble as a country because we did not save for the rainy day. For example, between 1999 and 2015 when we produced an average of 2.1 million barrels of oil per day, and oil prices stood at an average of $100 per barrel, we did not save, neither did we develop infrastructure. Suddenly, when we came in 2015, oil prices fell to about $30 per barrel. “I asked, ‘Where are the savings?’ There were none. ‘Where are the railways, the roads, the power?’ None. I further asked, ‘What did we do with billions of dollars that we made over the years?’ They said we bought food. Food with billions of dollars? I did not believe, and still do not believe.” Jonathan, however, while making an indirect reference to Buhari’s claims, said he was proud of his achievements, especially in the area of rail construction. In a Facebook post, Jonathan made reference to a piece written by a former columnist of The Punch, Tolu Ogunlesi, which was published on January 12, 2015.
The ex-President said: “I am grateful to God and my team for what we were able to achieve with our railways, among other things.” Ogunlesi, who now serves as the Special Assistant on Digital/News Media to President Buhari, had praised Jonathan’s achievements in a piece entitled, ‘The case for and against President Jonathan.’ In his Facebook post, Jonathan lifted the quote from Ogunlesi’s piece, “Let’s start with infrastructure. On the railways, the Jonathan government scores high marks. The railway line between Lagos and Kano has been revived after about two decades of inactivity. “The Enugu-Port Harcourt line has just been launched; Abuja-Kaduna is almost finished. There was a determined push to upgrade airports across the country, for which we are grateful.” Following Goodluck Jonathan’s response to claims by the Buhari-led administration, Nigerians have taken to social media to air their views on the situation, with many asking the question: “Who do we
believe?”.
Below are views of Nigerians on the highly controversial debate, that stems now beyond politics to the integrity of these Nigerian leaders.
Innocent Chuka Jr said: ” I understand how it feels when enemies intentionally wants to rubbish and make personal gains of ones achievement and legacy. But we are talking about the truth which shall one day be let free for all to see. Sir may our good Lord be ur strength and protection. Amen.

Time is telling already and people have realised that going foward with transformation was better than going back to old ways with change from good to worse till I have the opportunity to comment again keep flexing your life our own GEJ.”
Emmanuella Ochukome said: “Finally, GEJ has given Mr Lie Mohammed a good opportunity to earn his salary. He’s presently cooking a swift rebuttal, as opposition to GEJ is his/their turf. He and his principal, the NEPA bill guy with a Premium Times School Certificate, only excel in opposition to GEJ. God bless GEJ!!”
Adeyemi Holuwahtahyor Hadekoyar said: “Our eyes are now Open… There is Nothing you can do against the truth except for the truth, because the truth will always be Known…. When Gej was there, they never see something good in his administration but our economy was the best in Africa. We are manufacturing Cars there was equality in Governance, freedom of speech was truly practised.. Sir i Respect because there plan was to defarmate your character but you were vindicated.. Mr Pmb is now destroying all our Economy all in the name of Backward Change.. Change is causing hardship on all Nigerians, companies are folding up Let us open those eyes, Buhari said Change Begins with us and Yet, he is still collecting salary fully, Osinbajo is still collecting Salary full.”
Prince Paul said: “We are aware sir… until some set of people understand that to lead this country you must not come from a certain region or belong to a certain religion the fight will always be to keep Nigeria as one”
Oju Ogheneluemu Odezi said: “The present government won an election and have tried in vain to destroy the achievements of your administration. They have told us that you destroyed the nation and your administration is the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history! But with these things done, they still have not won the hearts of Nigerians and I doubt if they can? They have forgotten their contributions to destruction of democratic ethos and how they set this nation back several years in imbibing democratic culture? Till this day elections in Nigeria seems like military styled coup de tats and citizens are yet to grasp how important they are in nation building processes. They cannot see how they destroyed the fabric of nation building, they have appropriated to themselves the right to determine who sins, whose sin is forgiven and who is righteous. We continue to watch them and will remind them that by the same measure they have judged you, shall they be judged.”
Ndukwe Emeh Chidozie said: “Those who are being realistic and unbiased would always look to Jonathan’s administration with utmost magnanimity. Jonathan meant all well and his achievements speaks for themselves. But today it seems our gains are dwindling and we moving backwards. God help us!!”
Joshua Temitope said: “O Nigeria. How did we get here. How did we miss the mark. For a morsel of porridge we sold our collective birthright to men who are on a mission to take us back to Egypt. With lies and propaganda we were deceived into seeing chains as change. At a time where laughter and peace was in the heart of Nigerians, the invading army of doom from the north came in with deceit and subtle lies, invaded our land like the historical troy and now we are back into the past.
Things indeed have fallen apart. The flute and drums that once gave melody to the heart of Nigerians has been burnt up in the fires of cluelessness. The songs of festivities and celebration that once rented the air has now been CHANGED to pains and complains. But as God lives we are going to march strongly out of this economic quagmire. We are going to march to the promised land. Nigeria shall be saved.”
What is your take on this issue, who do we believe on this debate of great importance to us as a nation, especially at this moment in our political history.
