Here Are The 7 Warning Signs That Can Help You Detect
Lung Cancer Before It's Too Late
We are all afraid of the word
cancer, because we usually tend to associate that word with death. However,
having the 'c' word doesn't always lead to death. If caught early, a person can
still survive it. Although we can't control our genetics, we can try to prevent
getting it by making healthy diet and lifestyle choices. Knowing the signs
beforehand to try and prevent cancer from happening to you is the best way to
safeguard yourself.
To better understand how we all
can do our best to try and avoid getting cancer, perhaps it is better to
understand how cancer really works first. We all know that we have cells
throughout our body. Our cells die off, and then new ones replace the old ones.
For the most part, this is a pretty smooth transition. Unfortunately, sometimes
a disruption can occur mid-process, thus potentially causing a tumor to form.
Now just because a tumor formed,
does not necessarily mean that this tumor is fatal. After all, there are two
types of tumors, malignant and benign. Malignant are the dangerous ones because
they can invade other tissues. Benign are considered more harmless than
harmful. Depending on which one you have, and depending on how early you found
it, can be the line you cross when it comes to surviving cancer or succumbing
to it.
Cancer is a dreaded word that
everyone wants to avoid, but the truth is that everyone should be aware of how
cancer starts. There are signs that begin to develop that give off clues to our
health. If we educate ourselves on the warning signs of cancer early on, in
this case particularly lung cancer, our knowledge of the disease and knowing
what to look for could in fact, in the end, save our life.
When it comes to lung cancer,
there are warning signs you can look for in regards to this disease. If you are
experiencing any of these signs already, it might not hurt to contact your
doctor to get some tests done. Again, early detection can save your life.
Shortness of Breath - If you
often struggle with having a shortness of breath, this could be a warning sign
that you may have already started developing lung cancer. One cause of
shortness of breath is from tumor growth, which we now know has a potential of
leading towards cancer.
Wheezing - For some, wheezing is
just caused by asthmatic symptoms. However, if you have never been diagnosed
with asthma, it could mean something more. Wheezing reflects the passage of air
through a narrow airway. If you notice that your wheezing is worsening, then it
is definitely time for you to call your doctor.
Bone Pain - If you are feeling
pain in your ribs, your backbone, or the bones in your thighs or hips, this
could be another warning sign of lung cancer. Bone pain is known to develop if
the lung cancer has already metastasized to the bones.
Persistent Cough - Having a cough
could just mean you have a cold, or a tickle in your throat. However, if you
have a persistent cough that has lasted longer than two weeks, this is
something you should be concerned about. If you ever cough up blood, this is a
bad sign and you should call your doctor immediately.
Chest, Back, Shoulder Pain - When
someone with lung cancer tries to take a deep breath, chest pain can sometimes
occur. The chest pain can then travel to your back or shoulders even. Although
having chest, back, and shoulder pain does not always mean you have lung
cancer, it doesn't really seem worth the risk to not at least get it checked
out by your doctor.
Unexpected Weight Loss - Although
we all love it when the scale just randomly decreases in our favor, it is not
always a good thing to just suddenly lose weight. Unexpected weight loss is
usually the first sign patients suffering from lung cancer will physically
notice as a symptom. Loss of appetite and even gaining mouth sores from
medication all can contribute to unexpected weight loss.
Headache - Headaches can
typically be caused for any number of reasons, but having lung cancer can
change the types of headaches you get. If you have a tumor on your lung, it can
actually compress the blood vessels that carry blood to and from the brain,
thus causing more frequent headaches than you are used to, with also varying
tension levels.
If you have any of these signs,
it would not hurt to reach out to your doctor to describe the symptoms you are
experiencing. Further testing can be done to know for sure, and to hopefully
give you peace of mind that you do not in fact have lung cancer.
